When the walls in my house started to resemble cardboard, I remembered my grandmother's house in the Carpathians: yellow logs, the smell of resin, and a cat always sitting in the corner on the warm floor. The only way to replicate that log house without cutting down or using a ton of wood was with faux spruce timber, 20 x 135 x 3000 mm. It looks just like a real log, but weighs less than a sack of potatoes.

The boards come with live knots: small, light-colored ones, like dents left by rain, and just a few tiny black ones—like peppercorns in borscht—that add character. Kiln-drying removed moisture to 10-12%, so not a single plank warped when I brought it into the apartment from the cold. The tongue and groove fit tightly together, with no visible gaps; I don't want to hide the joints.
The installation turned out to be easier than hanging a picture. I screwed the bottom beam around the perimeter, then inserted each board into the groove, gently pressed it with my palm, and it popped into place. The fastenings are hidden, so there's not a single "honeycomb" of screws visible on the surface. I lined the corners with baseboard, covered the ceiling with a decorative rail, and voila: in one evening, the hallway was transformed into a mini-log house.
Where is it suitable? Anywhere you want the warmth of wood but don't need a load-bearing wall: bedroom, living room, hallway, children's room, kitchen, even an office. Smerka is heat-resistant, doesn't smell of chemicals, and only gives off a faint hint of pine when the sun hits the wall. And best of all, if you want a different color, just sand it down and paint it—the logs will remain, but the mood will change.
